Description:

DUTY DESCRIPTION: Plans and coordinates specialized training throughout the Sheriff’s Office. Coordinates in-house training, primarily utilizing Sheriff’s Office instructors. Performs related work and other duties as assigned. The position is located in the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Administrative Services Division.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assesses training needs through surveys, interviews, and research;
  • Ensures deputies qualified to instruct are utilized to provide in-house training on a regular basis;
  • Plans or participates in planning training course objectives;
  • Coordinates scheduling of training courses, audiovisual equipment, and other training aids;
  • Evaluates effectiveness of training presented;
  • Coordinates training with all divisions and sections within the Sheriff’s Office to ensure efficiency of training hours;
  • Works with Training Supervisor to ensure development of the Annual Training Plan;
  • Provides supervisors with training reports;
  • Maintains training records;
  • Oversees training development for all new supervisors;
  • Assists departmental instructors and employees in applying for Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certification and attendance in training courses and academies;
  • Maintains liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and Idaho Peace Officers Standards and Training;
  • Assists supervisors by providing printouts of employees training for performance evaluations;
  • Participates on an interagency training committee to exchange ideas on training needs and resources.

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • May contract with subject matter experts to deliver training;
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Employee Development or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred;
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices related to police work and other ancillary programs of the department;
  • Knowledge of training principles and practices;
  • Knowledge of training materials and resources available;
  • Skill in verbal communications;
  • Skill in the use of a personal computer to keep records and produce reports.
  • Ability to incorporate into training programs, principles, procedures, laws, and regulations applicable to police work and ancillary/support services;
  • Ability to organize, and coordinate training sessions;
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy;
  • Ability to learn departmental regulations and procedures concerning training;
  • Ability to write clearly and logically;
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position without a direct threat to the health or safety of the incumbent or others.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.;
  • Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.

Preference in appointment will be given to eligible veterans.
